It seems now more than ever there are more bicyclists on the road here in Southgate. At Southgate Lincoln, we want to make sure that everyone can stay safe in our community. That's why we would like to share a few tips on the proper way to share the road with bicyclists.

Hand signals are important to bicyclists. They use them primarily to indicate turns and to indicate they are stopping. The only way that hand signals are effective, however, is if drivers recognize what they mean. Taking the time to learn what the different hand signals means is a great first step toward sharing the road safer.

Since your vehicle will likely be traveling faster than someone on a bike, you will find yourself having to pass frequently. Treat passing a bike like you would passing a vehicle. Leave plenty of space and you can avoid a collision or a side swipe.
