Have you ever hydroplaned? If so, you know it can be scary. Here at Southgate Lincoln, we believe that knowledge is one of the best ways to manage fear. That's why we think it's important to share basic tips for how to avoid hydroplaning with our customers. While you may not be able to completely avoid sliding, you can often take control of the situation if you know what to do.

First, be sure to slow down if it's raining. Even if it's only raining a little bit, it's still possible to hydroplane. Turn your cruise control off, too. These steps will allow you to have more control in the event of a skid.

If your car begins to hydroplane, simply remove your foot from the gas pedal. Do not use the brake. As you begin to slow, turn your steering wheel in the same direction that you're sliding. You should start to straighten out and feel your tires return to the road's surface.
